Great! I had always wanted to test the software powering typepad, for its 100+ plugins, but I was lazy to install it.
Now: “Yahoo! Small Business Web Hosting plans start from as little as $8.96 per month. Get started with Movable Type today!”
And As Jeremy puts it:
“
- Yahoo! scales. Yahoo can handle it when a blog gets slashdotted. No sweat.
- You probably already know this, but Y! Search Blog and the Y! Developer Network both use MT (of course, I set both of those up, so I might be a bit biased).
- Yahoo! servers run FastCGI, which is an order of magnitude faster than typical hosting environments. It might have been possible to rig this up yourself with a lot of work in the past, but now it's just there.
- No need to install MT. Really. No tarballs. No chmodding. Hallelujah. Upgrades are easy too.
- Lots of pre-installed plugins: stylecatcher, spamlookup, nofollow, wysiwyg, Yahoo! search, BigPAPI. Plus there's plugins for all your favorite Yahoo services, from Flickr to del.icio.us.
”
I only need to figure out the real difference of running a blog on MT or on Typepad Plugins I suppose. Jeremy is also saying they are considering hosting Wordpress. Smart. An offer for the Bills, and an offer for the Linuses as Martin would call them…
Now listen carefully to this: whenever Jeremy likes something, he buys it. So is Yahoo! buying SixApart ? There were at least 5 folks from Yahoo! corporate development at Les Blogs 2.0, including Simon Levine on my panel… and the corporate staff of SixApart (Mena, Barak…) and their VC (Andrew David on my panel…(thanks Jeff, my mistake)) was of course there too.
