Last I checked this piece of software, following I believe a post by Marc, this stuff required either a Mac or a Windows Media PC. And you had to pay for it. Hey... this stuff also works on a normal Windows XP now, and it's free from now on. Cool, thanks for the tip Russ.
The only problem is that I don't have a 2.4Ghz pentium IV laptop, just a plain pentium III 1.7Ghz. Let's see what happens, I'm on my way to downloading it right now.
What is it exactly. Extract from here:
"Ted Shelton of Orb Networks was the final Mobile Monday presentation. Orb Networks offers media streaming from your broadband connection and Windows XP computer to any Internet-connected device with a web browser and RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. You can browse and listen to music, movies, and television from your home computer while you are away from your desktop PC.
Orb Networks started in July 2004 and launched its first product at last month's Consumer Electronics Show. They do not have to pay licensing fees since users have already licensed their own content. The top use of Orb is streaming music. Orb is a platform, not a network."
Folks in the comments section on Russ' post say:
"Unfortunately they aren't offering their service in Europe yet. And of course, only a few operators offer flat-free GPRS/3G access here."
and also
"I've been trying out Orb for a couple of weeks and I really like the service. I put up a review on my blog at http://www.fstop-blues.com/2005/03/review-of-orb-networks-for-windows.html And now that it's free I think it's going to be a great service! I did only test it out on my desktop and laptop, so I'm not sure about the quality on a cell phone or pda."
