What a wonderful night ! I was watching a Eurovision broadcast, celebrating from Berlin and Warsaw the enlargement of the European Union to 10 more members. Many emotions tonight from former countries of the Soviet block once again reunited with Western Europe countries.
I believe that as citizens of the "old" European Union, we will need to get accustomed to our new frontiers, to new languages, to a larger mix of cultural heritage. Our European identity is expanding and reinforcing itself, with cultural inspirations from Estonia to Portugal and from Cyprus to Ireland.
I would like to pay tribute today to my son's forefathers, coming from the following regions:
- Spain: Andalucia
- France: Normandie, Lorraine, Franche-Comté, Ile-de-France, Haute-Provence, Côté d'Azur
- Italia: Piemonte, Liguria, Toscana
- Slovenia
- Austria: Carinthia
- Germany: Schleswig-Holstein, Brandenburg
- Denmark: South-East Jutland, North Jutland
- Poland: Silesia
... until we identify more regions !
