VoIP discount: where's the catch ?

Picture_7_4

How do these guys at VoIP Discount make money ? by charging $0.01 to non-free destinations ? charging for mobile calls? charging for premium services such as VoIP phone number and voice mail ?

how does it compare to Skype, Wengo Phone, VoIP Buster, Rebtel and the Gizmo Project ? I haven't been following the VoIP market lately. Thanks.

mig33 offers cheap VoIP too, with a mobile client

Mig33logoI wrote about Rebtel only a few hours ago. Seems to me that mig33 is offering something similar ?

(funny, I was looking today at my Google Adsense reports, and was wondering who on earth would click on my * a d s * every day. here I go I clicked on one on LinkedIn just a few minutes ago, and that’s how I discovered the service).

Has anyone tried it ?

And you thought VoIP made you anonymous. Amazing story here.

Call international super cheap with Rebtel

IllLocalNumbersBig

I’ve been using Rebtel for a couple of months now to call mobile phones in Spain from my mobile phone here in France. It’s rather complicated to understand how it works I think, but here goes:

1) subcribe to their site, pay up front some money

2) use their service to create a LOCAL number for an INTERNATIONAL number. you can do it on a permanent basis, or a temp basis. I’ve added a few people I used to call on international numbers with rebtel numbers, and added those to my contacts list on my phone

3) you’re charged very low rates (local calls) + $1 USD/week. If you call often then you make money. The $1 USD seems like a lot it you only place ONE call a week.

4) there’s a callback mechanism where when you call someone, they pick the phone, hang up, and call back. And then the international call is free.

All of this, while we wait for Skype to come up with a mobile version … (I’ve seen it with my own eyes already , although it’s not for public release AFAIK).

Skype on mobile phones

Eqo2

Just found this little tool from Eqo that allows you to get SkypeIM on your phone, and even Skype voIP (?) on your phone ?

Too bad the registration process is a bit cumbersome (they ask a lot of details, send you 2 SMS + wap links)… and I couldn’t get it to work on my Nokia N70. My Nokia N90 (that has my unlimited 3G data plan) is not yet supported. Had anyone managed to get it to work ?

(I actually also have the same problem with Wayfnder, the GPS package: it can’t find my internt link.. although the browser finds it with no problem ???).
