oups, Cuil is not cool

Picture_27
hum... read elsewhere about the great stuff everyone is saying about this new search engine. I tried about half a dozen ego searches, nothing came back. My attention span is over. I'll try again in a few months.

There are about 4 links on their page. They could at least get them right...

update: I refreshed, the page's there now...

RSS: Meet Salim Ismail, co-founder of Pubsub [english]

Quite some buzz lately about Salim (for instance here on Om’s blog), as he has just left Pubsub for new ventures. He sent an email around a couple of days ago announcing his move:

“PubSub is about to go into its next phase and I’m separating from the company, so my email address won’t work anymore.  When I started PubSub, it was always the intent to build it to a certain point and then leave to do my next venture.  After four years (internet years, no less), that time has come.
And no, I don’t exactly know what my next (ad)venture will be… but stay tuned.  Whatever it is, I’m first taking a vacation -  I haven’t had more than a 3-day weekend off since 2002, so I’m long overdue!
And in case you didn’t know, I’m now blogging at www.salimismail.com.  For those of you unfamiliar with blogs, it’s like a journal or diary online which gets updated regularly (in my case about 2-3 times a week).”

I taped a quick interview of Salim in the Paris metro at the recent LesBlogs conference last December. Here he explains quite well what PubSub is.

Good luck on your new ventures Salim. Looking forward to it.

Update: I just reencoded the video: it seems I had a small sync problem between audio & video. Is it better now ?

Google buys MeausureMap

Measure_map_logo

Had anyone spotted this latest acquisition by Google : MeasureMap ?

Again from the Download Squad:

Yesterday Veen announced on the official Google Blog that he and Measure Map have been acquired by Google. Measure Map is an interesting take on web stats, so I'm curious what Google has in mind for it, and in particular how it fits in with Google Analytics (nee Urchin). If I had one guess, it would be that Google intends to integrate Measure Map with their own blogging service, Blogger.”

Live from Las Vegas #029: the Google Keynote...

Download Download movie (.mov)

You asked for it, it's right here thanks to vpod.tv...
OK, the quality is rough, but I decided I wouldn't wait for my Mac to compress over 200GB again in H.264 because it took for ever. So I did a quick rough compression in 3ivx. I'll update the video with better compression over the weekend.

Indeed, GIGO... For great video quality playback, you need great video sources...

I'll update the shownotes later, but suffice to know that Robin Williams makes a number of appearances, each better than the previous one.

Enjoy.

Live from Las Vegas #025: the Yahoo! keynote

Download clip (.mov)

Back from Las Vegas, I was wondering whether I should put up the footage of the keynotes I filmed. They were public performances, in front of tons of journalists, photographers, and cameras. Now that I spotted that videos of keynotes were up on cnet’s news.com, I guess there’s no reason not to publish my own footage (I'll take it down of coruse if I'm given a good reason to do so).

So here’s Yahoo’s CEO Terry Semel Keynote.

Shownotes:

  • 12:40 – Jokes by Ellen Degeneris
  • 18:45 – announcenment of Yahoo! Go
  • 41:45 – appearance by Tom Cruise and trailer of Mission Impossible III
  • 48:15 – Appearance of Intel’s CEO, Paul Ottelini announcing Viiv
  • 54:30 – Final jokes by Ellen Degeneris

AOL buys video search engine TRUVEO

Truveo

I’ve mentionned them a couple of times, but man… this exit is way too fast! Our panel Investing 2.0 at les blogs 2.0 was right on => from the craddle of entrepreneurship straight to the buyer, short-circuiting the VCs… Read all about it on Jeff’s blog, an early stage BA.

WTF is 'Online Group Conference' on Technorati ?

Tn-logoIs this new the new way of spamming search engines ? Whenever I do a search on Technorati these days, I get 90% of results to a thing called ‘Online Group Conference’. This site is just linking to my stories (I did an egosearch) and from other people.

David, we need a way to filter out some sites in a search result !

Oups, I feel like a geek today using technorati Mini

Technoratimini

Yeah I know… Sometimes I look at my stats on my blog (currently on average at 700 UV/day, and over 1000PV/day), and sometimes I do an ego-search on Technorati to look who is talking about my blog. A few weeks ago, Technorati released a little feature called Technorati Mini. it’s cool, as it opens up a little window with the last 5 links to the keyword you typed in.

It’s great to watch something happening live, instead of pressing F5 (reload) all the time. Clearly useful for brands following a product launch, a piece of news developping, etc.

Now on my side, I have 2 URLs for my blog: http://sepulveda.net and http://rodrigo.typepad.com. So I open up 2 windows. And I’m starting to track http://vpod.tv as well. So here go my requests to Dave Sifry and his team:

1) can you please make it simpler to track several keywords in just ONE window ? either mix all the feeds, or create tabs of some sort ?

2) I really do not need to have the window update every 60 seconds, so that should be configurable

3) I probably can display more than the last 5 links on my vertical 24” display. So can the number of posts be made configurable too ?

4) I would need a little icon to appear next to each link if I haven’t clicked on it, or when it’s new. Just to make my life easier when I glance at the windows every hald and hour or so.

Thanks

digg.com stuff

Google_censor

I was trying to see this article on digg.com… So is Google filtering out content according to territories ?

By the way, if you don’t know digg, Wired has a recent story on its genesis, with diggnation co-host Kevin Rose being of course the founder. check this quote: “ Rose had built a strong following, and his TV fans followed him to several new ventures after he and some former broadcast colleagues formed a company, Revision3 Studios, to produce technology-centric video podcasts. ” Seeing any trend here ???

If you’re interested, I’ve starting digging myself at : http://digg.com/users/rodrigo.

The audience of digg is increasing quite rapidly: cehck alexa:

Graph

Digg.com is different although in my opinion more addictive than del.icio.us. Although if you are vicious enough, diggdot.us will combine all 3 services of digg.com, slashdot and del.icio.us into one place!
