3GSM'07 interviews

On the first day of the fair this year, I set up my camera to film some of the friends who were coming in to say hi.

update: I forgot to deinterlace the film. I'll update the file when I'm done recompressing. Done.

Hooking up with Ossi Sariola at 3GSM

I was delighted to meet up again with Ossi, from Call Genie. Although originally from Finland, Ossi is a wholehearted Brazilian from Sao Paolo, where he runs Mobile Monday Brazil :)

We had first met and chatted on video at the Global MoMo Summit in Helsinki last year.

Rodrigo interviews Cédric Ingrand from LCI at 3GSM

My guess is that the last sentence summarizes it all :)

By the way, here's the RSS feed for our videos from 3GSM:

just got my SIM card back: I now have a phone again

Logo-coriolis

Forget the temporary spanish number I had published earlier on on this blog. I just got back a SIM card for my French mobile number. It feels really weird to running around town with no easy for people to reach you, and no easy way to call anyone.

In the meantime, the thief in Spain has given me a nice over 150 euros bill for a single day. Indeed he was using my French hence using roaming tarifs in Spain. Let’s hope my operator, Coriolis Telecom, will cancel that bill, as there IS NO WAY to call their 0800 numbers from abroad. I tried many times. I was just given today their international number for abroad, but it was nowhere to be found on their site. So I had to try to find a friend in France who would call in for me (thanks Lim!). Crazy customer experience.

In addition their call center hours are just ridiculous…offices / call center closes around 5pm.

Last week, when I called them in Paris, I was told I should have gone to the Spanish police offices and reported my phone loss. Right… who’s going to go to a foreign police office in a foreign language to report a stolen phone ? And then I would have to pay for an official translator to get the document in French, and *maybe* get something done with that document ?

Oh, and they also got my keys, so I have no keys to my house. Luckily I have wifi at home, so I used it for about 45 minutes sitting at my doorstep last night, until my wife came home… I’m having a copy done at some point today. I think I have a key loss/theft insurance with one of my credit cards. I’ll let you know in an update the funny stuff my bank will tell me when I try to use the insurance: I’m sure they’ll ask for an official document with the diameter of the earth in picometers or something….

3GSM: they were all there

Download movie (.mov)

I wanted to get this video out on the web as quickly as possible after the end of 3GSM. In this 15 min sequence, you'll see short 30 sec to 1 min interviews with about a dozen people who were kind enough to speak to me in front of the camera.
I edited a bit the order of the people, in order to make your experience more fun. I still have lots of footage, and those chats that lasted more than 1 minute will make their way into another compilation at some point.

Most people here answer 1 or 2 very simple questions : why are they here at 3GSM, and what has caught their eye so far. It's a good mix of entrepreneurs, VCs, corporate people, investment bankers and consultants. I hope you like it.

Now after almost 20 posts this weekend, I'm going to go easy the rest of the week as I really have a hard one coming up.

3GSM: cocktail at the Streamezzo booth

Download movie (.mov)

Thanks to Streamezzo, and to its CEO, Stéphane Roder who makes a cameo appearance, we had a nice taste of Spain during the 3GSM, with 2 flamenco dancers, a singer and a guitarist…

That was Wednesday, just the first of all the parties we attended that day.

3GSM: a chat with Patrick Parodi, chairman of the Mobile Entertainment Forum

Download movie (.mov)

And surprise, in this video, Patrick tells us he is no longer with PacketVideo Network Solutions, an Alcatel company, but that he has joined a new startup, backed by Accel & Sequioa Capital, aiming to bring to the mobile medium what has been mising so far: advertising.

And you will even get a preview demo here… Isn’t this camera always in the right place ?

And of course, since you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know that Patrick is the chairman of the industry association, the Mobile Entertainment Forum.

3GSM: the Real Networks party

At Palau Muxio, an amazing 17th century palace in the Barri Gotic, where Real NetworksReal Networks was hosting its party. Some of us decided it was time by midnight to have some real fun after 3 hard days of work…
