Learning from Global CEOs

One of my best moments in the past few days at the Fortune conference in Half Moon Bay was a fireside chat on the 2nd night, after dinner. A few of us gathered around one of the speakers, as we all do all the time, for some high-quality networking.
It turned out to be a fantastic discussion into the insights of the CEO of one of the largest Indian (and he would argue, global companeis with 15K in the US, 10K in Europe, etc.) companies, HCL technologies.

I had not heard of Vineet Nayar before, and his insights into people management were really impressive. For over an hour, he was gracefully chatting away with us along a glass of wine. Dave Sifry was asking most of the questions, but the interaction grew nicely with all of us.

After checking his bio online, I discovered he is also a highly recognized business leader and thinker in the areas of team management, with articles on the HBR, HBS case studies, etc. (see here or here for example). And indeed, his soft approach to basic principles is very inspiring.

I just found up that he spoke recently at my business school ;)

I should really be reading more about what global leaders have to teach us. Getting my HBR subscription then ...
