French ISP Free has launched a VOD service in partnership with Canalplay, the while-label service of CanalActive (groupe Canal+). My Free router has just asked me to reboot so that it can download new software. Maybe it was for this new service. Maybe for something else?
Update: by the way I haven't told you about the Freeplayer I think. It's an amazing service: Free has repackaged the player from VLC (videolan.org), and has pre-configured as a video server. In a nutshell, with just a few clicks, it allows you to browse your computer's harddrive from your TV (with a remote control) in order to watch all your local videos.
Amazing, since I now have a number of different external harddrives to my PC box with lots of video :D Very easy to watch my vlogs on my TV, but also to download automatically for instance the new episodes of NerdTV using an RSS video graber such as Fireant and watch them on my TV... Really raelly cool! No need now to watch them on my computer, to buy a specific box to watch computer content on my TV, to go for a Windows MCE or to burn a DVD and put it in my DVD player next to the TV...
You were wondering about convergence ? My guess is that Free's next step is to put a software tuner on your PC letting you watch TV on your computer...
