Veoh 1.0 beta 'peercasting' software

I was discussing this with F. tonight: a solution for a cheal (think P2P) way of streaming video from one location to many locations: the example we talked about was about a physical band, rehearsing / playing to thousands of fans over the web. Well I remember some technology from Dialcom the great guys behind the video plugin for Skype, that does the trick. There are other P2P streaming solutions out there that I’ve read about, but can’t remember as such right now (update: for instance 1-click does it but in asynchronous mode). Now a new startup is working on the issue as well, Veoh:
A company by the name of Veoh Networks Inc has just added to the mix with a 1.0 beta offering of Veoh, a 'peercasting' video app that seems to be another variant on the theme of bittorrent for video files.
Available for Windows and OS X, Veoh creates a "virtual television network" using P2P-like architecture for content distribution. What's interesting is that, while the ability for content providers to charge for their content doesn't exist - yet, Veoh Networks Inc has stated they plan to have that option available for the public release in the future.” (via the DownloadSquad).
From Veoh’s site:
“ Want to create your own TV show, or a whole TV channel? Veoh allows you to broadcast Full-Screen television shows to the world, free of charge, even if you get millions of viewers. Start broadcasting today, it's free and easy. ”
at greater length:
“Veoh software, installed on PCs or Macs, creates a virtual television network, that is able to distribute TV-Quality, Full-Screen broadcast video to hundreds of millions of users with broadband internet connections. Motion picture studios, television networks, companies, organizations, and individuals are able to publish unlimited amounts of broadcast video content to the network, providing consumers with unparalleled choice in television programming, and control over their viewing experience.
Because Veoh delivers television programming over the Internet, it is unencumbered by restrictions imposed on traditional broadcasters by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the traditional costs of broadcasting. This allows broadcasters to produce innovative new content that has never been seen on television, and distribute that content throughout the world.”

Veoh utilizes a proprietary, secure P2P network that helps prevent piracy of content, and makes sure all video content is properly categorized, of TV-grade quality and always available. Unlike rogue P2P networks that utilize unmanaged BitTorrent to share mostly pirated video, Veoh is a community of publishers and consumers, where published content is approved by editors, and consumers are assured that they get what they request. The system also integrates tightly with Google Video and RSS, providing content producers with easy publishing to multiple video systems.”
It already got one round of financing.
